About Us

About Us

My name is Courtney.  I have been married to the love of my life for 16 years.

We have 3 kids: Karis- 14, Ethan-12, and Levi-10.

Our life is just the way we want it, and I praise God for all that He has done in my life.

We live at a Christian camp in the Texas hill country where my husband is the maintenance/projects director.  The camp is in the middle of nowhere, and while it took a long time to get used to, I love it these days.  It forces us to stay home a lot and live a slow-paced life.  We have a community of about 100 people (including 35 kids), and I have some great friends.  We are truly a family.

We have a little homestead with backyard chickens, a bit of gardening (we will expand this over time), fermenting and canning foods, making most things homemade, and more!

We love our two pups!

I’m a tattooed mama and love having art on my arms!

We are Wild + Free/Charlotte Mason/Classical homeschoolers and it is amazing.  We have a very relaxed daily life, and it has transformed our lives.  I feel like the kids have made a lot of progress, also.  See the “Our Homeschool” page for more about this!

Here is what we use!

Our family loves the outdoors.  We love to camp, hike, trail run, sit around the fire in our “back yard,” be in the high desert, swim in the beautiful river on our property, and be in the mountains.  We have lots of hiking trails outside our door where we live and it has been amazing having that opportunity (we live on 1400 acres).  We have a clear river just down the hill.  We don’t take advantage of where we live enough and we are working on that!

We always have music playing in our house.  This is huge for our family.  This is what we do instead of having the TV on (this is rare).  Some of my favorites are Steffany Gretzinger, Amanda Cook, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Lumineers, Soundtracks (right now A Star is Born is a favorite), The Civil Wars, JJ Heller, Johnnyswim, Drew Holcomb, 90’s music, old school Christian, Ed Sheeran, Wilder Woods (Bear Rinehart from Needtobreathe), and so many more.  We have branched out a lot these days!  And of course Christmas music is playing from September through December.  Haha.  Don’t judge!

I’m working towards becoming a Childbirth Educator through Childbirth International.  It’s slow progress, but it’s exciting to me!

I LOVE to cook and bake.  These are just a few of my recent creations.

I’m pretty much always schooling with the kids, cleaning, organizing, baking, cooking, meal prepping, writing (blogging mostly), reading, playing games, chatting, studying my CBE stuff, researching and learning, and more. I love being home.

I love focusing on hospitality.  We have friends over for coffee, feed people, game nights, movie nights, I sometimes host Bible study, etc.  It has made a huge difference in my relationships here and my mental health.  I have loved having people over more and more!

I am pretty obsessed with southwest patterns, jeans and t-shirts, Toms and Chacos, yoga, cold brew and hot tea, writing and reading, succulents and cacti, kombucha, the sunrise and sunset, hiking, being crunchy, sitting outside, cooking/baking from scratch, our home, yoga, my porch, and so many other things.

I call myself “Sorta Crunchy.”  I use natural products, try to eat pretty natural (though sometimes this is hard), buy meat from a friend who sells grass fed beef, shop the farmer’s market sometimes, recycle and use reusable products, etc.  But I try to not “live” by that because I am open to the ups and downs of life.

I’m 3 1/2 years sober.  I have mental illness that I work hard to battle each day.  God has been so gracious in these areas to help me through each day.  I take lots of meds, go to counseling as needed, see my psychiatrist every three months, go to AA (or do it online), etc.  I’m a huge advocate for educating people about these things.

Most importantly, I love Jesus and am working on having a more intimate relationship with Him again.  I went through a long season of bitterness and anger towards him.  I have seen Him do so much good in my life despite this, and I am learning how much He loves me.  I’m learning about His grace and mercy.

We recently started going to church again at a new church that we really love.  I’m super excited about this and can’t wait to see how this transforms our family.

  1. I’m glad I finally found your Blog. I’ve been looking for it. Hmm maybe that’s something you should think about. Any way, I’m looking forward to reading several of your links. I’m especially looking forward to finally seeing what “THM.”

  2. Hi! Do you still homeschool, too, or have you swapped to something different? I ask because I noticed that in the description on your Facebook page, but I haven’t seen anything about it yet while just browsing your blog. Either way, I’d love to hear about whatever your experience with it has been. 🙂

        1. Thank you! I have finally given control to God because I have tried to make many things work that weren’t from Him (only from my desires). He has brought so much peace lately. It’s wonderful.
